Relaxed in-home Newborn Photoshoot in Frome, Somerset - Amy, Caine and baby Kai

It was such a treat to travel down to beautiful Frome for Amy and Caines newborn shoot with their gorgeous new baby Kai. Their beautiful little fluff ball of a dog Frankie even insisted on joining in for some of the shots. Kai was so perfect, 8 weeks new and alert as anything. He didn’t fancy taking a nap so we embraced those awake wide eyes and cuddled him in for the whole session. Some babies don’t fancy sleeping during their sessions (especially older newborns!) but thats ok! I always lead with a baby-led approach, so whatever works for them will work for me.

There’s something about being invited in to witness the intimate moments of postpartum life. Documenting the scattered parts of a new life unfolding. It’s a mark of trust that is never lost on me. I know all too well the emotions of those first few weeks. The sleepless nights, endless feeds, washing left forgotten and beds unkept. No time for anything but the moment that lies before you, lost in mothering, a new self evolving with each second passed. But this is simply the joy and the thrashes of the fourth trimester. The form of matrescence, in all it’s intensity.
